SAP Monitoring

1st Watch helps customers monitor their SAP landscape with comprehensive coverage of SAP critical transactions, database, and OS parameters vital to the smooth operation of your ERP.
1st Watch can be scaled to cover multiple sites and multiple landscapes (perfect for Small, Medium or Large companies—even Managed Service Providers or PCOEs with multiple client SAP systems to monitor).
“Some critical tasks have to be performed every morning”
— SAP Practical Guide (p. 270. 2011)
The purpose of these tasks, which are system checks, is to, “determine whether the SAP system is running as normal.” We built 1st Watch specifically to fulfill these requirements and to aid Basis Administrators in performing these checks. It became apparent that this “monitoring” was better done by computer and indeed SAP suggest that some of the check be done by software (typically Solution Manager).
1st Watch is a simple, easy to install and configure, but powerful system. The system sends out a report (typically daily) that show the results of these critical tests over the last 24-hour period. The Daily Report is great for SAP Basis Managers, as it gives them a snapshot of the SAP Landscape and supping systems.
The report can also serve as a checklist of things to address (especially for lone Basis Admins).
These are the the main features of the Daily Checks:
Define your own reports—keep tabs on what’s important to you.
If the default reports are not enough, or you just want to make changes to their content and frequency, 1st Watch is flexible enough to meet your needs. You can specify where the report goes and what content it contains. You can also set the frequency of the report.
You can customize what SAP systems and monitoring transactions should be in the report, who the report is sent to, and formatting options
“Certain areas of your SAP system need to be monitored on a regular basis to ensure reliable operation.”
— SAP Practical Guide (p. 269. 2011)
This regular monitoring is best done by computers—although SAP assumes humans will manually perform these checks. 1st Watch will keep watch over your SAP landscape day and night without fail. If it detects any issues, the system will identify the problem and alert the support teams assigned, following customer-prescribed escalation trees. Taking monitoring off the plate of highly skilled SAP Basis Administrators can save your team 30% of the time spent in monitoring. It will move you from a reactive state (putting out fires) to proactive (preventing fires).
Set parameters specific to your landscape and tolerances.

Filtering options are very powerful.
1st Watch allows for filtering of alerts in a very granular way. This provides you the ability to focus on just the kind of issue you’re looking for across different types of systems. Want to focus on availability (SM51)? You can!
Want to focus on Canceled Jobs (SM37)? You can! Want to view just Table Locks (SM12) across landscapes (or just production systems)? You can!
